A Chilly February Wedding in Iowa

Every wedding photographer loves a sunny and 75 degree day to photograph a wedding. I mean come on, blue skies, a dreamy golden hour, green grass and flowers blooming. What’s not to love?! But think about this. Iowa. February. Snow. 20 degree weather. Are you sold yet?! Hanna and Zach were, and honestly, we LOVED every minute of their chilly day! Snow on the ground and a gorgeous golden hour gave us the perfect excuse to hop outside and photograph the two of them snuggle in close and enjoy a moment together after saying ‘I do.’

The Perfect Indoor Wedding Venue

While we did utilize the great lighting outside as much as we could, we took a lot of photos indoors to ensure no one completely froze before the ceremony! Lucky for us, Ashton Hill Farm wedding venue in Cedar Rapids is a great indoor space for photos. With the large windows and open space, we were able to take photos of the dozens of family members all while staying cozy and warm! So don’t be afraid to get married in the winter. Snow can make a beautiful backdrop and choosing a venue that has large, open spaces gives you a ton of opportunities for pictures inside if you don’t want to brave the cold.

Hanna + Zach’s Wedding Day

Aside from the venturing into the cold, there were so many beautiful moments at this past Saturday’s wedding! Between the special first looks and heartfelt vows (featuring many Parks & Rec quotes), I can’t even tell you how many times I got teary-eyed. It was so obvious how perfect these two are for each other. After a 2 year long engagement and years of dating (they’re high school sweethearts!), it was clear to see how excited their 300 guests were to witness this long awaited big day! How amazing for Hanna + Zach to be surrounded by so many loving family and friends!
