Rainy October Farm Wedding
It rained all day for Kayla and Kyle’s wedding day. And we mean ALL. DAY. Not the huge rainstorms you get during the summer, but just an overall mist/sprinkle that never seemed to stop. But, that did not dampen their spirits and we still got to take so many gorgeous pictures outside! Even a few “run through the fields and get mud all over your wedding dress” kind of pictures (at the end of the day of course!) And the whole time, Kayla’s dad so patiently waited by their side with an umbrella to protect them from the rain between photos! I mean, rain is good luck on your wedding day, right?!
Rustic and Charming Barn
Kayla and Kyle had their ceremony and reception at The Barn in Wellman, Iowa, southwest of Iowa City. It’s a perfectly rustic and charming barn sitting on the iconic rolling hills of Iowa. With the weather making everything a little gloomy, it looked like we were in the rolling hills of Scotland instead (which is perfect seeing as Kayla and Kyle are HUGE fans of the show Outlander)!
Handmade Floral Bouquets
There were so many beautiful details from their wedding day. From the perfectly mismatched bridesmaids dresses, the most incredible charcuterie board, mini desserts, antique furniture, Kyle’s custom suit, Kayla’s gorgeous lace dress, and brick oven pizza, it was a beautiful day despite last minute changes to move the wedding inside.
One of the most memorable details from the wedding day, however, were the flowers. They had colorful bouquets, boutonnieres, the most amazing centerpieces and hanging flowers over the head table. And the best part? Kayla and her mom grew and designed the florals themselves! If you’d like to hire them for your wedding, visit Under A Tin Roof’s website.
An Intimate, Heartfelt Ceremony
We could go on and on about how much we loved this whole day, but we’ll wrap up with their ceremony. It was a small, intimate ceremony with the only light coming from candles, a chandelier and some string lights – talk about romantic!! The most special moment of the ceremony however, was when Kayla and Kyle read their vows. They were incredibly heartfelt, leading both of them to cry. Tad, Kayla’s son, asked “Why are mommy and daddy crying?” then proceeded to give his mom a hug mid ceremony.
*Cue all the happy tears!!*
They ended the evening with pizza, toasts, and first dances under the twinkly lights. Congratulations Kayla and Kyle! Thank you for such a beautiful day!
